Conservation and Pest Control

Tools for pest control, habitat protection and studying endangered species.

Our range of Pulsar thermal monoculars, binoculars and riflescopes are essential tools for:
  • Observing and recording endangered species
  • Researching pest populations and distribution
  • Front-line pest eradication.
Our optics are used by:
  • Department of Conservation
  • Regional councils
  • Pest control firms
  • Wildlife trusts
  • Farmers and horticulturists
  • Forestry companies
  • New Zealand Fish and Game Council
  • University of Auckland.

Thermal imaging monoculars & binoculars

Our optics are in constant use and cover a wide range of applications, such as helicopter culling, wallaby and rabbit control, feral pigs, possums, cats, Canada geese and rats.

The wide range of applications often require different optical specifications, depending on pest size, distance and shooting technique. For instance, rapid close range shooting of deer and goats requires a wide field-of-view, while shooting rabbits and wallabies over long distances requires higher magnification.

Investing in Pulsar thermal equipment provides many years of reliable service, ensuring high productivity and cost effectiveness.

Thermal imaging riflescopes

Thermal imaging monocular / forward clip-on

A thermal monocular that can be fitted to a riflescope for thermal shooting is a cost effective alternative to investing in a Thermal riflescope and thermal hand-held.

This technology favours casual pest controllers, such as farmers, foresters and conservation trusts, rather than full-time pest controllers.

The high specification monocular has a removable eyepiece, enabling the monocular to fit onto the front of a riflescope by means of a secure bayonet mount. This process converts the device from hand-held spotter to riflescope clip-on in seconds.

Wildlife observation

Using our thermal and night vision optics to observe wildlife at night provides a means to study habits and assess population density, with little or disturbance. Video recording with sound and able to spot animals day and night, even when obscured by mist, rain and light foliage are additional benefits.

Our optics have studied a range of wildlife, including a variety of seabirds on Motuora Island, Black Terns in mid Canterbury by DOC and other groups. As well as studying habits and counting numbers, our optics also provides reliable information  about predator numbers and impact.

Pest Control

Our Pulsar thermal monoculars, binoculars and riflescopes are relied upon by pest control firms, D.O.C., regional councils, wildlife trusts, farmers and forestry companies throughout New Zealand.

Our optics are vital for establishing pest numbers and distribution, as well as for eradication, ensuring maximum fiscal productivity.
